The report explores the most impactful technologies and trends in consumer-facing artificial intelligence while highlighting key insights that are reshaping entire industries around the world.
Industrial IoT & Edge Computing
IoT and artificial intelligence played a stellar role in the tech community, While industry experts anticipate IoT will see its own growth, continuous innovations in real-time data analytics and cloud computing are set to push the internet of everything (IoE) to the fore in 2018.IoE relies on machine to machine communications, data, processes, and how humans communicate with everything in their environment. Cloud computing will play a significant role as the IoE develops into complex systems aimed at simplifying all interactions.
The cloud presents unique security challenges—such as multiple entry points into networks and devices—that traditional security measures aren’t equipped to handle. So what are the primary security challenges facing the cloud? And what are the best practices for preventing a security breach? Let’s take a look at a few.
AI In Speech Recognition
While companies like Google are confidently pronouncing that we live in an “AI-first age,” with machine learning breaking new ground in areas like speech and image recognition, those at the front lines of AI research are keen to point out that there’s still a lot of work to be done. Just because we have digital assistants that sound like the talking computers in movies doesn’t mean we’re much closer to creating true artificial intelligence.
Future of Robotics
The advent of virtual doctor visits, tele-medicine delivering home healthcare in rural areas, and surgeons performing life-saving procedures from thousands of miles away with robotics means full service health care at home is close to becoming a reality.
Blockchain is best known as the technology behind the cryptocurrency bitcoin — a digital currency whose value soared above $19,000 over the last year before slumping to half that when the frenzy subsided. But blockchain is so much more, potentially easing the doubts and uncertainties that dog so much of life — whether buying a used car from a stranger, having faith that a piece of fruit really is organic, or knowing that a prescription drug isn’t counterfeit. Blockchain, in effect, hard-wires trust into transactions or data that we might otherwise be more cautious about.
